Japanese Indigo
Japanese Indigo (Persicaria tinctoria) is a tropical shrub prized for the dark blue dye created from its leaves. The leaves are soft and dark green and each plant provides a prolific number of leaves and off shoots during the season. Harvest by cutting above a branching point, ideally before flowering for dye. 2-3 harvests of leaves are possible before the plant starts to flower. Plants can be spaced 12” apart.
A very fun plant to have in the garden and very easy to grow. Many resources are available on youtube for how to properly use the leaves for dye.
