Night Blooming Jasmine (Raat ki Rani)
Night blooming jasmine (Cestrum Nocturnum) is a perennial, fast growing shrub that can reach up to 8 feet tall and 3 feet wide. An ideal plant for next to a door or window, as the plant emits a highly fragrant scent at night when the flowers open. Part of the Solanaceae family, which also includes tomatoes and peppers.
A very easy to grow plant indoors or outdoors. Requires full sun (at least 4 hours, best with more) and lots of water. To control the size of the plant, regular top pruning is encouraged to promote a more bushy stature. Can handle temperatures down to 25 degree F but would be best to grow it in a pot and bring it indoors if temps are consistently that low.
Flowers grow in clusters that bloom consistently throughout the spring through fall. In my greenhouse the blooms are still going even in December.
